Our Story

I’m glad you’ve landed here. It probably means you’re looking for a bit of help getting your business noticed, which is a great place to start.

After many years working in the corporate world, I decided to go out on my own and focus on what I enjoy most, helping small businesses stand out, bring in more work, and turn interest into real customers.

With Market My Trade, I work alongside my colleague Bill Cooper. We’ve worked together for years, both freelance and in previous roles, and we share the same approach to doing things properly. Between us, we bring complementary skills that help us deliver a well-rounded service to the trade.

We’re big on keeping things straightforward. We take the time to understand your business, look at the bigger picture, and then get stuck in to make things happen, whether that’s through advice, content, or digital marketing that works.

Four Reasons We Created Market My Trade

1. Trades are busy doing the actual work
After speaking with countless tradespeople, one thing became clear — their skills are incredibly specialised and hands-on. But between long days on-site and keeping the business running, there’s very little time left to figure out digital marketing. So most either do the bare minimum… or nothing at all.

2. Marketing isn’t something most people are taught
Just like in many other industries we’ve worked in, marketing knowledge is often lacking,  unless you’re actually a marketer. It’s not something most trades are trained in, yet it’s become essential for growing a business.

3. The customer experience often falls short
From our own experience trying to find tradespeople, we’ll be honest, some of the websites and online presence out there are pretty rough. That got us thinking: if this improved, not only would customers have a better experience, but trades investing in it would win more work too.

4. Trades have been overlooked

Most marketing agencies prefer big budgets and flashy projects they can shout about. As a result, the trades have largely been ignored, with very few reliable options for proper support — often ending up with “a mate of a mate” who’s “good with computers”.
